Then it explains with an example that how using Alteryx these shortcomings of Excel can be overcome easily. It also mentions that Power Query is learned after Excel and then Alteryx.

Lesson 2: Connecting Excel to Power Query

In this video, the working of Power Query is stated and how it overcomes the shortcomings of Excel. It also shows how manually most of the things are done by Power Query to get the data in a proper format. It then comes to the reasoning why Alteryx is important. For explaining this factor, the trainer took the example of two companies – Book my Show and Coco-Cola.

For these companies it is very important to handle large data volumes, Sped is required, Frequent refreshes are done, It needs predictive analysis of data, Most of the times it requires the data in such a way that it can be sent to visualization tools for visualizations, all this is possible only through Alteryx.

Lesson 3: Getting to know the Alteryx User Interface

In this video, it is explained how the transition occurs from Excel to Power Query and from Power Query to Alteryx. The main reason the user uses Alteryx is for Analytics. To Explain the Alteryx interface properly it is divided in to 5 segments. The first segment is called a tool pallet from where the desired tools can be drag and dropped on the working area. The second segment is called Tool Search Box.

If you are not able to find any tool on the tool pallet, you can search here by typing it. The third segment that is the working area is called Canvas. The fourth segment is called as configuration Panel generally known as a settings box of tools. The fifth segment is the result window which will brief you about the result.

Lesson 4: US Sales By 4 Business Segments

In this video, an example of US Sales by 4 Business Segments is taken to explain the working of Alteryx. It explains the full workflow of the process. The first tool of the workflow is the input tool which brings the data files to the workflow. If we want to view the input data files the brows tool is used. Then again one more input tool is added to the workflow at the bottom to add the file from another segment.

The to add more add on and perform functions a multi-row function is added to the bottom input data. Then select tool is added to the first input data. Then a joining tool is added and the two-input data are connected to it. In this way, the rest of the tools are dragged and dropped to create a full workflow. The workflow is designed to get the output of a number of accessories by its segments like bikes, accessories, clothing, and components.

In this video, three easy ways to learn Alteryx is explained. The first step states that you can hover over the tools from the tools pallet and it shows its description name and how it is used. The second method states that as a user you will know what kind of workflow you want to design you can search for that kind of sample workflows which will build the workflow on your canvas along with the detailed explanation of all the tools included and their functions.

The third way states that if you have forgotten under what tab the tool was placed and you know the first few letters of the tool then you can easily search it from the search tool option.

In this video, how the data cleansing tool cleans the data to improve the quality of data, is explained. By definition data cleansing means to fix common data quality issues using a variety of parameters. It helps us to Replace null values, modify the case, remove unwanted characters across the fields you select, string or numeric, and trim leading/trailing whitespaces.

In this video, the process of the container tool is explained. The basic function of Tool Container is to organize tools in a workflow or to group them together. The process of the workflow can be displayed in an expanded or collapsed manner. The container tool can be disabled to prevent the tools inside from running.
